About the Role
Roche/Genentech Pharma Product Development Global Clinical Operations (PDG) is committed to transforming drug development and delivering 20 transformative medicines by 2029. As part of this mission, we are seeking a Clinical Operations Therapeutic Area Leader – Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism (CVRM). This senior leadership role carries strategic and operational oversight for the clinical development portfolio across CVRM, with significant influence across the global Roche enterprise.

This position is designed for an experienced leader ready to drive global clinical operations strategy, portfolio execution, stakeholder alignment, and innovative delivery models across high-impact therapeutic areas.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Portfolio Leadership

  • Define, evolve, and oversee the global clinical operations strategy for the CVRM portfolio.

  • Ensure alignment with the Clinical Development Plan (CDP) and Roche’s One Pharma Strategy.

  • Prioritize portfolio activities based on scientific, operational, and strategic considerations.

Operational Oversight and Risk Management

  • Maintain continuous visibility across studies and assets to monitor progress, risks, and dependencies.

  • Implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure seamless global trial execution.

Cross-Functional and Enterprise Collaboration

  • Drive collaboration across PDG, APO, COEs, early/late-stage development teams, and additional enterprise partners.

  • Provide strategic operational leadership to influence decision-making and optimize development timelines and outcomes.

Innovation in Clinical Operations

  • Leverage analytics and data-driven insights to improve quality, efficiency, and probability of technical success (PTS).

  • Champion patient-centric approaches and promote innovative methodologies across the clinical operations framework.

Enterprise Representation and External Engagement

  • Serve as the senior PDG representative for CVRM, partnering with internal leadership, regulatory agencies, vendors, and patient advocacy groups to support strategic goals.

People Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead a matrixed global team of approximately 150 employees, including 10–12 direct reports.

  • Build a high-performing, inclusive culture emphasizing collaboration, accountability, and scientific excellence.

Organizational Leadership

  • Represent CVRM within the Portfolio Delivery Leadership Team, contributing to broader PDG and PD initiatives.

  • Oversee administrative responsibilities, performance management, and development planning for team members.


Who You Are – Experience & Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 15+ years of pharmaceutical clinical operations experience, with at least 10 years in global clinical operations strategy leadership.

  • Deep expertise in Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism therapeutic areas, including global development trends, regulatory expectations, and operational challenges.

  • Comprehensive understanding of international clinical development, including large-scale endpoint-driven trials.

  • Proven track record in:

    • Strategic planning and execution

    • Data-driven decision-making

    • Improving access and trial inclusivity

    • Achieving ambitious portfolio goals

  • Experience leading and developing large matrixed organizations with multiple layers of direct and indirect reporting.

  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities and ability to influence senior leaders across complex global environments.

  • Fluency in English; additional language skills are an asset.

  • Ability to travel frequently nationally and internationally.

Preferred Characteristics

  • Experience collaborating with regulatory authorities and global health agencies.

  • Demonstrated success driving organizational transformation and operational innovation.

This position may be based in one of the following Roche sites:

On-site presence is required in alignment with local policies. Relocation benefits are available.

California Salary Range:
$227,600 – $422,600, depending on experience, location, and qualifications.
A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance.
