Job Title: Clinical Coder

Location: Remote (Available for candidates residing in Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, North Carolina, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia)

Duration: Full-time, Direct Hire

Shift: Day Shift, 5x8-Hour

Pay Range: $35-$40/hr


Job Duties:

  • Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract and apply appropriate ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes for reimbursement, external reporting, research, regulatory compliance, medical necessity, CCI, NCCI, and other regulatory edits.
  • Code and abstract high-complexity medical records in Primary Enterprise acute care facilities.
  • Identify principal diagnosis and procedure codes, and appropriate secondary diagnoses and procedure codes.
  • Assign and present on Admission, Hospital Acquired Condition, and Core Measure Indicators for all diagnosis codes.
  • Facilitate appropriate MS-DRG for inpatient medical records and APC assignment for outpatient medical records using UHDDS and facility guidelines.
  • Use facility encoder to interface with hospital mainframe/EMR in both on-site and remote settings.
  • Review charges and Evaluation and Management levels.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and required computer systems with minimal assistance.
  • Abstract coded data and pertinent fields from the hospital’s electronic health record, ensuring accuracy.
  • Meet established quality and productivity standards while ensuring accurate data input.
  • Facilitate peer review and training for Acute Clinical Coders and provide management support.
  • Stay updated with coding principles and regulatory guidelines related to inpatient and/or outpatient coding.

Skills:

  • Ability to concentrate and work for long periods reviewing electronic health records.
  • Ability to meet daily and weekly deadlines in a fast-paced office/home environment.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Pharmacology.
  • 4 years of coding experience in an acute care setting required.
  • Current certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC-H, CPC, or CIC.
