Internship Overview

The Clinical and Statistical Programming Intern will gain hands-on experience in drug development, clinical research, and statistical programming. This internship equips students for industry careers by providing exposure to SDTM dataset creation, ADaM concepts, programming tool development, and process documentation. Interns will also learn to leverage R, Python, and SAS, along with artificial intelligence and machine learning frameworks, in real-world clinical programming applications.

This is a hybrid internship with 3 days onsite in Princeton, NJ, and 2 days remote per week.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Exposure:

  • Receive training and hands-on experience with SAS, R, and Python.

  • Produce and perform QC of SDTM datasets, including program writing and validation.

  • Develop tools to accelerate and automate programming tasks.

Clinical Research Integration:

  • Learn industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements for clinical programming.

  • Report and visualize clinical trial data effectively.

  • Utilize programming environments and internal utility tools.

Process Improvement and Operational Excellence:

  • Apply continuous improvement principles to enhance operational efficiency and quality.

  • Participate in process mapping and workflow optimization.

  • Support documentation and refinement of SOPs, templates, and work instructions.

  • Contribute to metrics tracking and performance dashboards.

Professional Development:

  • Engage in weekly mentorship with senior programmers and team leads.

  • Network and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Biostatistics and Data Management.

Capstone Project:

  • Complete a real-world programming assignment and present findings to the Extended Programming Leadership Team and relevant stakeholders.


Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled in the first or second year of a Master’s program in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or related fields.

  • Interest in clinical research and programming.

  • Basic understanding of clinical or statistical programming.

  • Academic or industry experience with SAS, R, Python, and familiarity with AI or machine learning concepts.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.

  • Basic knowledge of project management tools.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with process mapping or workflow documentation tools.

  • Exposure to AI/ML frameworks, including large language models (LLMs).
