Position Overview
We are seeking a Medical Records Coding Senior Representative to join our BPO healthcare operations team in Chennai. This role is critical for ensuring accurate, standardized, and compliant medical coding across healthcare documentation, facilitating efficient communication and record-keeping between medical facilities.
As a senior representative, you will apply your expertise to review clinical statements, assign standard medical codes, and maintain uniformity in documenting diagnoses, procedures, and healthcare services. This role is ideal for professionals with prior medical coding experience seeking career growth in a dynamic BPO healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
Review clinical documentation to accurately understand patient diagnoses and treatments.
Assign universal alphanumeric codes for diagnoses, procedures, medical services, and equipment following ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines.
Ensure uniform vocabulary for medical conditions, injuries, and procedures to support consistent documentation across healthcare providers.
Verify the accuracy and completeness of medical records and perform quality checks.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals and team members to clarify documentation and resolve discrepancies.
Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, company policies, and confidentiality standards.
Mentor junior coders and provide guidance on complex coding scenarios.
Experience Required
Minimum Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in medical coding or health information management, preferably within a BPO or hospital environment.
Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
Ability to analyze clinical statements and apply standard coding rules consistently.
Proficiency in healthcare software, electronic medical records (EMR), and MS Office tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience as a Senior Medical Coder, Coding Specialist, or Health Information Analyst.
Knowledge of auditing processes and compliance in medical coding.
Strong communication skills for coordinating with clinical teams and management.
