Job Title: Billing Specialist
Location: Global Therapy & Services
Salary Range: $16.50 - $21.00 Hourly

Position Summary:
The Billing Specialist is responsible for managing the billing and financial functions necessary for the efficient operation of Global Therapy & Services, ensuring a person-centered environment. This role involves submitting private, state, and Medicaid insurance claims, collecting co-pays, resolving claims disputes, and assisting with various financial transactions, including accounts payable, receivables, and cash receipts. The Billing Specialist will also serve as a backup for the Resource Specialist and Bookkeeper.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform billing operations using the agency's billing platform
  • Work with private pay customers and insurance carriers to submit invoices and collect co-pays
  • Verify Medicaid/Medicare/Tricare claims and ensure proper coding
  • Resolve disputed claims in a timely manner
  • Complete invoicing, accounts receivable/payable for agency-related entities
  • Cross-train in finance to back up Resource Specialist and Bookkeeper as needed
  • Administer medications as needed, following appropriate techniques and passing Medication Administration testing
  • Perform lifting and transferring techniques as trained (up to 50 lbs)
  • Drive agency vehicles for business-related tasks when required
  • Communicate effectively and work in various environments, including both quiet and noisy settings

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation of monthly financials
  • Operate Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and reconcile insurance payments
  • Provide support for debt collection follow-ups and agency reporting requirements
  • Serve as backup for Bookkeeper and Resource Specialist during their absences
  • Work flexible schedules or irregular hours as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of AR/Billing experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience using EMR systems
  • Must be a licensed driver with reliable transportation
  • Successful completion of background, drug, and motor vehicle checks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Medical Accounts Receivable/Medical Billing experience

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent sitting, walking, standing, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand motions and sit at a computer for long periods
  • Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, and reach above head as needed

Work Environment:

  • Moderate to loud noise levels in a primarily indoor environment
  • Must be able to work irregular or extended hours, including evenings and weekends

  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and within a team

Supervision:

  • Reports to the Community Supports Director and Chief Financial Officer
