Position Overview

The Behavioral Health Counselor/Therapist will work closely with the behavioral health team, medical team, and community stakeholders to provide a comprehensive continuum of care. The role involves completing psychosocial assessments, developing treatment plans, and conducting crisis de-escalation for individuals with a wide range of mental health diagnoses. You will also provide individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy in a trauma-informed environment.

This is a part-time position located on the Aberdeen campus, offering flexibility and the opportunity to be part of a solution-focused team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Complete psychosocial assessments and develop treatment plans based on patient needs.
  • Provide trauma-informed therapy: individual, family, and group therapy as appropriate for various age groups and diagnoses.
  • Monitor patient progress and work to achieve treatment goals.
  • Collaborate with the behavioral health team, medical team, and community stakeholders to coordinate care.
  • Educate patients and families on mental illness/mental health issues.
  • Provide crisis de-escalation and support to patients when needed.
  • Coordinate discharge and aftercare services, including collaboration with community resources.
  • Work independently to assess and recommend appropriate levels of care for patients.

Qualifications

  • Education & Training:

    • Master’s degree in Human Services (Social Work, Professional Counseling, etc.) required.
    • Licensed as an LGPC or LMSW in the state of Maryland required.
    • Preferred: LCSW-C or LCPC.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with acute and chronic mental illnesses in an acute care psychiatric setting (preferred).
  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of behavioral health clinical practice in multiple settings.
    • Ability to complete psychosocial assessments and provide trauma-informed care.
    • Experience in individual, group, and family therapy.
    • Ability to develop and implement discharge and aftercare plans.
    • Effective communication with internal teams and external partners.
    • Strong critical thinking and time management skills.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to crises calmly and effectively.
    • Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and adapt to changing needs.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $33.37 - $41.66 per hour
  • Other Compensation: $2,500 sign-on bonus
