Job Description

Position Overview

The Associate Technical Director - Clinical Trials will be responsible for building and managing a team of ~60 employees, establishing a clinical trial laboratory, and ensuring high-quality operational execution. This position requires strong leadership skills, clinical trial expertise, and experience with PCR, oligonucleotides, plasmids, and robotics.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Build and manage a team of ~60 PSS employees for a new clinical trial lab.

  • Provide leadership, oversight, and strategic direction to ensure lab success.

  • Manage hiring, coaching, performance evaluation, and development of employees.

  • Ensure smooth onboarding and training for new staff.

  • Establish and maintain a positive and productive work culture.

Clinical Trial Operations

  • Oversee clinical trial processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Ensure high-quality service delivery aligned with financial and contractual objectives.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

  • Monitor and improve lab performance metrics, including efficiency, productivity, and quality.

  • Identify and implement process improvements in collaboration with the operational excellence team.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies.

  • Lead risk assessment and mitigation strategies for trial operations.

  • Support regulatory inspections and audits as needed.

Technical Expertise

  • Work with clinical trial technologies, including PCR, oligonucleotides, plasmids, and robotics.

  • Provide scientific guidance and oversee the implementation of advanced lab techniques.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Manage budgets, track financial performance, and ensure cost-efficiency.

  • Report and review performance metrics with key stakeholders.

  • Lead special projects and strategic initiatives to enhance lab efficiency.


Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological or related sciences (BS) with 10+ years of experience, or Advanced degree with 7+ years of experience.

  • 5+ years of management experience in a clinical trial setting.

  • Strong clinical trial expertise, including regulatory and operational knowledge.

  • Experience with PCR, oligonucleotides, plasmids, and robotics.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD, or equivalent).

  • 5+ years of clinical trial experience.

  • Vaccine testing experience.
