Join the world leader in scientific services as an Associate Sample Coordinator supporting the PPD® Laboratory Services team at Thermo Fisher Scientific. This role is essential to ensuring accurate sample management and supporting laboratory operations that directly impact global patient health. You will work onsite at our Highland Heights facility and play a key role in maintaining sample quality, compliance, and workflow efficiency.


Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Shift: 1st Shift (Day Shift)

  • Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

  • Starting Pay: $17.50 per hour

  • Eligibility: Annual Bonus & Merit Increase Program

  • Location: 2 Tesseneer Rd, Highland Heights, KY 41076


Position Summary

As an Associate Sample Coordinator, you will support the Sample Management department through sample handling, inventory control, data entry, and adherence to SOPs and regulatory standards. This entry-level position offers a strong foundation for building a career in laboratory operations, sample logistics, and regulated environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine sample-related tasks including receipt, check-in, labeling, login, inventory, storage, transport, and checkout.

  • Support laboratory operations by completing administrative and documentation tasks.

  • Communicate task updates to supervisors and laboratory staff.

  • Train on SOPs, client procedures, regulatory guidelines, and storage requirements.

  • Respond to environmental alarms and assist with on-call duties when required.

  • Complete assigned work accurately, on schedule, and in compliance with safety and quality standards.

  • Participate in core sample processing across all shifts:

    • 1st Shift: Initial receipt of shipments and sample accessioning through the LIMS system.

    • 2nd Shift: Processing shipments and initiating storage in dry ice and -70°C freezers.

    • 3rd Shift: Sample retrieval, storage optimization, handling of -20°C and liquid nitrogen storage units.


Required Education & Experience

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • No prior experience required; training is provided.

  • Experience in inventory management, warehouse operations, or laboratory support is beneficial but not mandatory.


Required Skills & Abilities

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation according to SOPs.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused environment.


Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand for full shifts and work in upright, stationary positions.

  • Ability to lift and move 15–40 pounds as needed.

  • Ability to work in non-traditional or varying environmental conditions.

  • Exposure to laboratory environments requiring PPE such as gloves, gowns, lab coats, ear protection, and safety glasses.

  • Occasional exposure to hazardous materials, infectious agents, or extreme temperatures.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently under pressure.
