🔷 Role Overview

AstraZeneca seeks an Associate Director, Publications to support the Early Vaccines & Immune Therapies group.
You will lead strategic scientific publication planning for pipeline products in preclinical to Phase 2 development.
The role requires scientific curiosity, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams and external experts.


🔷 Key Accountabilities

Publication Strategy & Planning

  • Lead cross-functional publication planning teams.

  • Develop & execute strategic publication plans for assigned products.

  • Ensure alignment of publication activities with product strategy and scientific narrative.

  • Ensure transparent, fair, balanced communication of scientific data.

Scientific & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Advise teams on publication aspects across preclinical, translational, medical evidence, and clinical studies.

  • Participate in scientific/medical team committees and provide publication updates.

  • Engage with investigators, scientists, journal editors, and congress committees.

Project & Budget Management

  • Manage financial forecasting and budget tracking for publication plans.

  • Oversee medical communication agencies—output quality, timeliness, compliance.

  • Track and document publications via the publication management system.

Compliance & Innovation

  • Ensure adherence to AZ publication standards, GPP, ICMJE guidelines, and transparency rules.

  • Drive adoption of new publication technologies, tools, and standards.


🔷 Essential Requirements

  • 3–5 years in medical communications (pharma or med-comms agency).

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological or health sciences.

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Drug development process

    • Good Publications Practice (GPP)

    • ICMJE recommendations

    • Peer-reviewed publication process

  • Excellent project management skills; ability to handle multiple parallel projects.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.


🔷 Desirable Requirements

  • Post-doctoral degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, etc.) or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to interpret scientific data and explore innovative methodologies.

  • Experience working cross-culturally and globally.

  • CMPP Certification.


🔷 Work Model

  • Hybrid model with minimum 3 days/week onsite.

  • Flexibility provided while maintaining collaboration and connection.


🔷 Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Pay Range: $150,000 – $225,000
    (Typically 80%–120% of role’s market reference point)

  • Incentive Eligibility:

    • Short-term incentive bonus

    • Equity-based awards (for salaried roles)

    • Commissions (for sales roles)
