About the Role:
Novartis is seeking an experienced Associate Director – Pipeline Operations to drive operational excellence and innovation across the Development function. This strategic role is responsible for managing and optimizing the Horizon platform and associated project management systems to deliver high-quality project and pipeline data. By turning insights into actionable outcomes, the Associate Director enables teams to execute drug development projects with precision, agility, and alignment to organizational priorities.

This role is pivotal in supporting portfolio governance, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring compliance with company standards while driving continuous improvement and adoption of best practices in project management and data analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and optimize the PPM/Horizon platform and related systems, ensuring fit-for-purpose operational capabilities for Development.

  • Serve as the primary contact for the Horizon user community, providing guidance on setup, project plan management, and adherence to governance requirements.

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve centralized project management processes, aligned with organizational standards and best practices.

  • Conduct quality checks to ensure project plans and processes support data integrity and approved procedures.

  • Collaborate with cross-divisional teams to enhance data quality, process consistency, and operational efficiency.

  • Coordinate seamless data flow between PPM systems, executive reporting tools, and other key applications.

  • Gather user feedback to address Horizon usability issues and partner with governance boards to drive adoption and continuous improvement.

  • Contribute to training strategies, delivering targeted support to promote best practices, cross-functional planning, and ownership of deliverables.

  • Support portfolio governance by recording decisions, ensuring compliance, and aligning with IMB/Board protocols.

  • Develop and implement project and portfolio reporting strategies, providing actionable insights for senior management and the Development Leadership Team.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Graduate degree in Life Sciences (Master’s or equivalent). Knowledge of Data Science is advantageous.

  • Minimum 8–10 years of industry experience, including at least 5 years in multi- or cross-functional team roles, ideally in drug development or related environments.

  • Proven success in international, multidisciplinary teams within complex matrix organizations.

  • Strong understanding of the drug development process, project management, and operational governance.

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information, provide actionable recommendations, and influence stakeholders, including senior leadership.

  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills with a track record of driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Strong technical proficiency, including PowerPoint, Excel, and project management systems (e.g., Horizon), and an interest in leveraging AI-driven tools for enhanced operational efficiency.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills, capable of managing multiple priorities across global teams.

  • Demonstrated adaptability, growth mindset, and ability to inspire and coach team members.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in pharmaceutical or biotech organizations.

  • Familiarity with data analytics and operational dashboards for drug development projects.
