Role Overview

The Associate Director Oncology, TA Access leads a regional access team focused on oncology therapies, driving integrated market access strategies across the full product lifecycle—from early development to in-market execution.

This role is responsible for:

  • Leading a team of 5–8 access professionals

  • Delivering integrated product access strategies (IPAS)

  • Ensuring strong payer value positioning

  • Supporting oncology brand and disease area strategies

  • Driving cross-functional alignment across global stakeholders


About the Team

The role sits within Novartis Business Services / International Access function, supporting:

  • Oncology therapeutic area strategy

  • Market access planning

  • Pricing and reimbursement strategy

  • Evidence generation and payer engagement

The team works closely with:

  • HEOR (Health Economics & Outcomes Research)

  • Medical Affairs

  • Commercial teams

  • Pricing & reimbursement teams

  • Regional and global access stakeholders


Key Responsibilities

1. People Leadership

Lead a team of 5–8 associates by:

  • Driving performance and engagement

  • Building capability and talent pipelines

  • Setting clear objectives and expectations

  • Coaching and mentoring future leaders

  • Managing team development plans


2. Integrated Access Strategy (IPAS)

Support development and execution of integrated access strategies across:

  • Early-stage assets

  • Development-stage products

  • Marketed oncology therapies

Own or coordinate:

  • IPAS deliverables (Opportunity, Strategy, Execution)

  • Access workstreams within governance forums (IPAT/IPAS)


3. Market Access & Payer Strategy

Ensure strong access positioning by:

  • Developing payer value propositions

  • Aligning evidence generation with access needs

  • Supporting reimbursement and pricing strategy

  • Anticipating payer requirements and barriers


4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with:

  • Therapeutic Area leadership (Oncology)

  • HEOR teams

  • Medical Affairs

  • Commercial and pricing teams

  • Regional market access stakeholders

Contribute to:

  • Brand strategy

  • Disease area planning

  • Key strategic decision forums


5. Governance & Process Excellence

Drive:

  • Standardized access processes

  • Best practice sharing

  • Continuous improvement initiatives

  • Cross-team alignment on deliverables

Ensure:

  • High-quality, timely outputs

  • Clear accountability across teams


6. External Landscape & Risk Monitoring

Monitor and respond to:

  • Payer landscape changes

  • Policy and reimbursement trends

  • Market access risks

Adapt strategies proactively based on:

  • External healthcare environment shifts

  • Oncology market dynamics


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Post-graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in:

    • Health Economics

    • Epidemiology

    • Public Health

    • Health Services Research

    • Business Management

    • Related disciplines


Experience

Candidates should have:

  • 10–12 years of experience in:

    • Pharmaceutical industry

    • Contract Research Organizations (CROs)

    • Academic or research institutions

    • Related pharma functions (clinical research, epidemiology, pricing analytics, statistics)

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in Oncology therapeutic area


Leadership Requirements

Strong experience in:

  • People management

  • Project leadership

Technical & Functional Skills
