Position Summary:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role supports Scientific and Clinical Experts (SEs/CEs) in the cardiometabolic therapeutic area, including diabetes, obesity, and related conditions. As a field-based expert, the MSL provides unbiased, evidence-based scientific exchange, insights from healthcare professionals (HCPs), and supports Lilly’s research and commercialization strategies.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Scientific & Clinical Expertise

  • Provide accurate, balanced, and up-to-date scientific knowledge tailored to HCPs' needs.

  • Maintain deep disease and product knowledge in cardiometabolic health.

  • Respond to clinical and scientific requests from SEs/CEs with precision and integrity.

2. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Foster relationships with SEs/CEs across community and academic institutions.

  • Connect HCPs with internal Lilly teams or resources for collaborative initiatives.

  • Support clinical research activities including site identification, selection, and recruitment.

3. Strategic Field Execution

  • Develop and implement a territory management plan to engage priority stakeholders.

  • Leverage field tools and analytics for routing, planning, and engagement tracking.

  • Partner cross-functionally with other Lilly field roles for coordinated customer engagement.

4. Insight Gathering & Internal Collaboration

  • Communicate actionable clinical and customer insights to inform Lilly’s strategic direction.

  • Collaborate across Lilly’s medical and commercial teams to drive innovation and evidence generation.

  • Contribute to team goals, support peer development, and operate with high ethical standards.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD) with 2–3 years of clinical experience, OR

  • BSN, RPh, NP, PA with 5+ years of clinical, research, or industry experience in a relevant area.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strongly preferred: Background in diabetes, obesity, or cardiometabolic diseases.

  • Proven ability to synthesize and communicate complex scientific data clearly and effectively.

  • High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Experience working independently in a field-based role.

  • Familiarity with academic systems, clinical trial environments, and medical education.

  • Comfortable with digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, VEEVA CRM) for virtual engagement and planning.


Logistics & Travel:

  • Must reside in or near Indianapolis, with access to a major international airport.

  • Field-based role requiring up to 80% travel, including occasional weekend commitments.


Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base salary range: $145,500 – $213,400

  • Eligible for performance-based bonus
