Role Overview

The Associate Director – Territory Operations Manager (AD-TOM) serves as a regional expert supporting Patient Operations and multidisciplinary project teams across the cell therapy landscape. As a senior technical leader, this role establishes compliant processes for treatment centers, partners with Regional Operations Directors (RODs), leads research and internal reporting, and maintains best practices aligned with regulatory and industry standards.

This is a field-based regional role supporting the Greater Gulf territory, with preference for candidates located in:
Illinois, Georgia, Florida, or Ohio.

The AD-TOM reports to a Regional Operations Director (ROD).


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic & Technical Leadership

  • Lead and support strategic initiatives across clinical and commercial cell therapy programs from early development through post-market phases.

  • Serve as a senior technical expert influencing strategy, governance, and execution at regional and multi-country levels.

  • Maintain updated knowledge of cell therapy workflows and industry standards.

2. Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal AstraZeneca teams including:
    Program Management, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Compliance, and Sales/Marketing.

  • Support cross-functional coordination to ensure alignment across the cell therapy portfolio.

3. External Partnership Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with PIs, physicians, nurses, apheresis teams, cell therapy labs, and site leadership.

  • Establish high-quality patient-centered service lines across assigned clinical sites.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to operational and clinical leaders.

4. Clinical & Operational Oversight

  • Provide operational and clinical guidance for clinical trials and commercial cell therapy products.

  • Guide apheresis excellence, clinical workflows, and product handling optimization.

  • Oversee raw material collection, product receipt, storage, distribution, infusion, and COI/COC management.

5. Site Activation & Readiness

  • Lead site activation using risk-based tools for certification, training, and monitoring.

  • Act as the primary operations readiness liaison between clinical sites and internal teams.

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to align logistics and operational needs.

6. Training & Capability Development

  • Design and deliver training for PIs, MDs, nurses, apheresis personnel, coordinators, and cell therapy lab teams.

  • Ensure appropriate COI/COC access for trained site staff.

7. Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory/accreditation standards such as FACT.

  • Support or lead quality records, including Deviations, CAPA, and Change Controls.

  • Maintain audit readiness and drive continuous improvement.

8. SOP & Issue Management

  • Address SOP deviations professionally with expertise and collaborative problem-solving.

  • Ensure consistent adherence to operational and clinical standards.

9. Logistics & Account Management

  • Oversee site logistics and manage regional account changes in partnership with the Cell Therapy Hub.

10. Travel Requirements

  • Travel up to 50% across assigned regions.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Nursing, Physician Assistant) with strong hands-on experience in cell therapy.

  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in cell therapy.

  • Expertise in service lines including infrastructure, resource planning, costing, and quality metrics.

  • Proven success in delivering against timeline, quality, and cost objectives.

  • Strong knowledge of cell therapy standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience managing external providers and negotiating/overseeing contracts.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific degree (MS/PhD).

  • Broad understanding of patient operations, manufacturing interfaces, quality, regulatory, and market access functions.

  • Project/quality certifications (e.g., PMP, CPHQ).

  • Experience in academic and Sponsor settings, including multi-country exposure.

  • Early-phase clinical trial experience across multiple therapeutic areas.

  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM systems.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Base Pay: $150,000 – $225,000

  • Additional incentives may include:

    • Short-term performance bonuses
