Position Overview

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager – Surgery to lead and manage surgical coding operations at our Noida location. This role focuses on team leadership, operational excellence, and client management within the medical coding function. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in surgical coding, demonstrated leadership experience, and the ability to optimize productivity, quality, and turnaround time while maintaining regulatory compliance.

This role requires 8+ years of coding experience, including 2+ years in a team lead or managerial capacity, and certification in medical coding (AAPC or AHIMA).


Key Responsibilities

  • Team & Performance Management: Lead, mentor, and coach coding teams to achieve productivity, quality, and turnaround time (TAT) targets. Monitor performance metrics including attendance, attrition, and operational efficiency.

  • Client Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, managing communication and relationships to ensure satisfaction and timely issue resolution.

  • Operational Oversight: Evaluate workflows, operational practices, and periodic reports to identify process improvements. Implement quality initiatives to enhance coding accuracy and efficiency.

  • Training & Development: Collaborate with SMEs, auditors, and trainers to identify training needs for outliers and provide targeted coaching to improve performance.

  • Strategic Planning: Support senior management in the planning and evaluation of operational systems, budgets, and business plans. Implement retention strategies and manage attrition effectively.

  • Compliance & Audit Support: Ensure adherence to coding, billing, and regulatory requirements. Actively participate in internal audits and maintain documentation for compliance purposes.

  • Process Improvement: Recommend and implement solutions to enhance operational performance, team collaboration, and overall service delivery.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Graduate or Postgraduate in Life Sciences, Allied Medicine (BHMS, BAMS, BPT, Dental, Pharmacy, Nursing), or related fields.

  • Certified Medical Coder – AAPC or AHIMA (CCS, CPC, CPC-H, CCS-P).

  • 8+ years of coding experience, including 2+ years in team lead or management roles.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.

  • Proficiency in coding and billing requirements, healthcare reimbursement methodologies, and regulatory guidelines.

  • Proven analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills to manage teams, clients, and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members to improve performance and compliance.

  • Experience in operational planning, performance tracking, and process improvement initiatives.
