Position Overview

Pfizer is seeking an experienced Director, Antivirals Field Medical (MD) to provide advanced therapeutic and medical expertise within the Internal Medicine division. This role supports a broad range of External Medical Stakeholders (EMS) across an assigned multi-state territory. The Director will lead scientific engagement, support medical education, strengthen cross-functional collaboration, and ensure compliant, high-quality medical communications aligned with Pfizer’s medical strategy.

This remote role requires strong medical insight, scientific communication excellence, and the ability to operate independently while collaborating within a matrixed global organization.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Medical Leadership

  • Develop and execute independent medical strategies aligned with Pfizer’s therapeutic area objectives.

  • Maintain deep expertise in antiviral disease areas and Pfizer’s Internal Medicine portfolio.

  • Deliver accurate, evidence-based therapeutic information to internal and external stakeholders.

Scientific Communication

  • Provide approved scientific content through live, virtual, or written formats.

  • Respond compliantly to unsolicited medical information requests.

  • Lead advisory boards, scientific discussions, and peer engagements with oversight.

External Stakeholder Engagement

  • Identify priority stakeholders and drive medical engagement to improve patient care outcomes.

  • Serve as a resource for Medical Information, research networks, investigators, and clinical stakeholders.

  • Support site identification for Pfizer-sponsored clinical trials, with emphasis on underrepresented populations.

Evidence Generation & Research Support

  • Support Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR) processes.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of congress data, emerging literature, and evolving antiviral practices.

  • Understand clinical study design, methodology, and data interpretation to communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with Global and US Medical Affairs, Corporate Affairs, R&D, and Field Medical teams.

  • Contribute to medical education strategies and aligned tactical execution.

  • Strengthen relationships with patient advocacy groups in collaboration with relevant teams.

Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Demonstrate territory leadership, scientific expertise, and proactive communication.

  • Mentor new colleagues and support onboarding processes.

  • Participate in special assignments and cross-functional committees as required.

  • Ensure all activities comply with regulatory, legal, and internal policy requirements.


Basic Qualifications

Required Education:

  • MD or DO degree is mandatory.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant medical affairs, clinical, or scientific experience.

  • Proven subject matter expertise recognized by internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience managing multiple scientific projects remotely with strong prioritization skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities including collaboration, influence, coaching, and decision-making.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to evolving therapeutic areas and organizational changes.

  • Proficiency with digital tools and technology for scientific exchange.

Clinical & Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of antiviral therapeutics, infectious diseases, or related Internal Medicine areas.

  • Ability to interpret complex scientific and clinical data.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior field medical experience within the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Familiarity with medical engagement SOPs, regulations, and compliance frameworks.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and comfort working in a fast-evolving healthcare environment.


Work & Travel Requirements

  • Remote role with frequent travel: 40–50%.

  • Must operate a company vehicle and maintain a clean driving record.

  • Regular air travel required for internal meetings and external stakeholder engagements.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual base salary range: $219,800 to $366,400

  • Eligible for Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan (bonus target: 25%)

  • Eligible for long-term share-based incentive program
