Syneos Health Communications is seeking a highly skilled AI Solutions Engineer (Freelance) to support the design, development, and deployment of internal AI-powered systems used across communications teams, including PR, advertising, and medical communications.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role suited for an experienced AI engineer who can translate business requirements into secure, scalable, production-ready AI solutions. Working closely with the Innovation Team, you will adapt existing internal codebases and develop new AI-enabled systems, progressing them through to deployment and hosting within Microsoft Azure environments.
This role offers an immediate start and the opportunity to contribute to impactful AI solutions within a global biopharmaceutical services organization.
Design and develop AI-powered internal tools aligned with business unit requirements
Adapt, extend, and optimize existing internal AI codebases where available
Develop new Python-based AI solutions where no prior code exists
Build and maintain advanced Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines and apply context engineering best practices
Write modular, maintainable, and well-documented code using Python and relevant technologies
Structure inputs, outputs, schemas, and metadata to ensure scalability and usability
Integrate AI components, including LLM APIs, into existing workflows
Ensure all builds are robust, production-ready, and suitable for technical handover
Deploy AI systems within Azure-based environments, ensuring accessibility and security
Build and maintain evaluation pipelines to monitor performance and quality
Implement evaluation frameworks covering performance, compliance, and ethical AI use
Collaborate closely with the Innovation Team to refine requirements and priorities
Iterate solutions based on feedback from internal stakeholders
Support multiple AI builds in parallel throughout the contract period
Experience Required: Minimum 3–6 years of professional experience in AI engineering, machine learning engineering, or related roles
Strong hands-on experience in Python development
Proven experience building and deploying AI-powered systems in production environments
Advanced experience with vector databases, multi-step or advanced RAG pipelines, and context-aware systems
Hands-on experience with AI/LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI or similar platforms)
Strong working knowledge of Git/GitHub for version control and CI/CD workflows
Demonstrated experience deploying scalable solutions within Microsoft Azure
Solid understanding of schema design, structured outputs, and metadata management
Ability to work independently with clearly defined requirements and tight timelines
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and delivery-oriented mindset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Experience building internal dashboards or developer tooling
Familiarity with FastAPI or similar backend frameworks
Experience working in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments (e.g., healthcare, life sciences)
