Job Summary

The Team Lead – Medical Affairs is responsible for providing scientific, technical, and strategic leadership to support product lifecycle management, medical affairs activities, and ethical promotion of pharmaceutical products. The role combines people management, medical strategy development, scientific communication, clinical research oversight, and cross-functional collaboration to drive business objectives and patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Strategy & Scientific Leadership

  • Provide strategic and tactical medical inputs to Product Management teams.

  • Support ethical promotion and scientific positioning of assigned products.

  • Contribute to medical strategy development and execution for key brands.

  • Develop expertise in designated therapeutic areas and serve as a scientific resource.

Marketing & Brand Support

  • Provide scientific guidance for marketing and brand plans.

  • Design and oversee medical-marketing programs and educational initiatives.

  • Collaborate with marketing teams to ensure scientific accuracy of promotional materials.

  • Facilitate interactions with healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders (KOLs).

Clinical Research & Medical Governance

  • Develop, review, and approve clinical study protocols and related documents.

  • Support clinical projects through scientific oversight and guidance.

  • Ensure compliance with ethical, regulatory, and scientific standards.

  • Apply expertise in clinical trial design and methodology.

Medical Information & Scientific Communication

  • Provide accurate, balanced, and timely medical information to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support scientific communication activities, presentations, publications, and medical writing.

  • Address medical queries from healthcare professionals and commercial teams.

Training & Capability Building

  • Conduct product and disease-area training for sales teams.

  • Lead pre-launch and launch training programs for new products.

  • Build scientific knowledge and capabilities across commercial teams.

People Management

  • Lead and mentor Medical Affairs team members.

  • Foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous development.

  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and career development support.

  • Manage team productivity and functional excellence.

Operational & Financial Management

  • Act as the primary Medical Affairs contact across functional domains.

  • Support the Cluster Head – Medical Affairs in budgeting and expense management.

  • Monitor resource allocation and operational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate Degree in Medicine (MBBS)

OR

  • Postgraduate Degree in:

    • Pharmacology (MD Pharmacology)

    • Clinical Pharmacology

    • Other Medical Specialties

Experience

  • 6–10 years of relevant Medical Affairs experience within the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience in:

    • Brand Medical Strategy

    • Scientific Communication

    • Medical Information

    • Clinical Research Support

    • Cross-Functional Stakeholder Management

  • Minimum 2–3 years of people management experience.

Salary Criteria

Expected Salary: ₹28–45 LPA (Fixed) + Annual Performance Bonus for candidates with 6–10 years of Medical Affairs experience and 2–3+ years of team management experience; MD Pharmacology/MBBS candidates with strong brand strategy expertise may command ₹45–60+ LPA.
