This team plays a crucial role in the sustainable development and commercialization of therapeutic peptides. The successful candidate will be involved in cutting-edge peptide chemistry, process optimization, and will collaborate across teams to deliver high-quality peptide active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic, cross-functional team that has already successfully commercialized peptide drugs like Mounjaro/Zepbound (Tirzepatide Hybrid Synthesis). The position will involve using established and novel technologies in synthetic peptide chemistry and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Peptide Synthesis: Synthesize complex peptide APIs using established and innovative techniques, including continuous manufacturing.
  • Process Development: Design and implement sustainable, innovative, and cost-effective synthetic processes for API production.
  • Problem Solving: Apply problem-solving skills to overcome challenges in peptide synthesis and process optimization.
  • Collaboration: Work with external organizations for technology transfer and process improvements, ensuring seamless support for the commercialization process.
  • Green Chemistry: Embrace principles of green chemistry to minimize the environmental impact of peptide manufacturing processes.
  • Data Generation & Regulatory Support: Generate data for regulatory filings and contribute to the development of high-quality documentation.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Present research findings in internal forums, at conferences, and through peer-reviewed journals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: PhD in Chemistry or a related field, or MS in Chemistry with at least 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience: Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and/or peptide chemistry.
  • Analytical Skills: Experience with peptide characterization techniques such as NMR, HPLC, and MS.
  • Peptide Synthesis Techniques: Understanding of various peptide synthesis methods, including Solid-Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS), Solution-Phase Peptide Synthesis (LPPS), and enzymatic approaches.
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in synthetic organic chemistry methods, chromatography (reverse-phase, ion exchange, size exclusion, chiral), and mass spectrometry (MS) for characterization.
  • Collaboration: Strong experience working in multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively present research.

Desirable Skills/Preferences:

  • Familiarity with peptide automation and advanced synthetic methods.
  • Knowledge of structural/molecular properties and their role in reaction development.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple assignments.
  • Strong publication record, particularly in organic synthesis or peptide chemistry.

Additional Information:

  • Travel: Minimal (0-10% travel)
  • Exposure: Possible exposure to chemicals, allergens, and loud noises in the laboratory.
  • Work Environment: This position will be based at the Lilly Technology Center-North, Indianapolis, Indiana.
