Position Summary

Eli Lilly’s Psychiatric, Pain and Neuronal Health Group seeks a highly motivated scientific laboratory leader with expertise in Neuroscience. The Advisor will lead laboratory efforts to generate robust decision-making data across neurological and psychiatric disorders, contribute to early-stage preclinical drug development, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead teams through early-stage preclinical drug development.

  • Drive evaluation and selection of novel therapeutic targets for psychiatric disorders.

  • Supervise and mentor a group of laboratory neuroscientists.

  • Present scientific data clearly to leadership and cross-functional teams.

  • Innovate and implement new approaches to study psychiatric and neurological disease biology.

  • Develop mouse models and cell line reagents using molecular biology techniques.

  • Develop and use in vitro assay systems (e.g., primary culture, iPSC-derived models) to study neuronal plasticity.

  • Understand pharmacology principles and methods to measure target engagement ex vivo/in vivo.

  • Utilize statistical analysis and data visualization tools effectively.

  • Represent Lilly externally through peer-reviewed publications and scientific engagements.

Education Requirements

  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Neurophysiology, or a related discipline with 2+ years of post-postdoctoral experience in academia, biotech, or industry; OR

  • Master’s degree with 15+ years leading laboratory and discovery projects through preclinical development.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience with psychiatry/neurodevelopment disorder models (in vitro, ex vivo, or in vivo).

  • Expertise in neuronal assay development and pharmacology.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Record of neuroscience research success demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.

  • Ability to travel 10–20% of the time.

  • On-site role based at Lilly Corporate Center, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $121,500 – $198,000 (dependent on education, experience, skills, and location)

  • Additional Compensation: Eligible for company bonus based on performance
