Job Summary

Optum is seeking an Administrative Patient Coordinator to manage the administrative intake of patients, including scheduling, outbound and inbound calls, and coordinating access to specialty services across the Tri-State region (NY, NJ, CT). This on-site, entry-level role is ideal for detail-oriented, customer-focused professionals who want to build a career in healthcare administration, patient access, and front-office operations within a mission-driven organization focused on health equity, outcomes, and patient experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Handle outbound calls to existing patients to schedule follow-up care and appointments.

  • Manage incoming requests for specialty services and triage/transfer to clinical staff when appropriate.

  • Update and maintain patient charts with current demographics, insurance eligibility, and communication preferences.

  • Educate and support patients to register and use the online patient portal.

  • Optimize provider schedules to improve patient access and care continuity.

  • Ensure accuracy, productivity, and thorough documentation within defined quality metrics.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and follow HIPAA and organizational confidentiality standards.

  • Work occasional overtime based on business needs.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED (minimum).

  • 18 years of age or older.

  • Ability to work on-site at Lake Success, NY during stated business hours.

  • Strong customer service, communication, and call-handling skills.

  • Proficiency with EHR/EMR systems, scheduling tools, and basic MS Office (preferred).

  • High attention to detail, ability to multitask, and manage time effectively in a high-volume environment.

  • Commitment to patient confidentiality (HIPAA) and data accuracy.

  • Entry-level candidates welcome; training provided.
