About the Role

As an Assistant Manager at Optum, you will play a critical role in managing teams, driving process efficiency, ensuring compliance, and maintaining strong client relationships. You will lead operational excellence by balancing productivity, quality, and employee engagement while contributing to healthcare optimization on a global scale.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding, billing requirements, and regulatory changes.

  • Manage team KPIs including productivity, quality, turnaround time (TAT), attendance, and attrition.

  • Lead overall personnel performance, discipline, and project deliverables.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for client relationships and communications.

  • Review and analyze periodic reports and metrics for process efficiency.

  • Provide expertise and leadership within assigned functional areas.

  • Support internal and external audit processes; ensure compliance parameters are met.

  • Drive quality initiatives and process improvements.

  • Build and execute retention strategies to manage attrition.

  • Prepare and manage annual business plans including operating budgets.

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and regular performance feedback to team members.

  • Establish a positive work environment fostering morale, quality, creativity, and teamwork.

  • Partner with SMEs, auditors, and trainers to identify training needs and implement corrective measures.

  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and employment contract directives.


Required Qualifications

  • Graduate or Postgraduate in Life Sciences / Allied Medicine (BHMS, BAMS, BPT, BDS, Pharmacy, Nursing).

  • Certified coder with AAPC / AHIMA certification (CCS, CPC, CPC-H, CCS-P).

  • 8+ years of coding experience, with 2+ years in a team leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology, ICD-10 CM, and CPT.

  • Proficient in healthcare reimbursement methodologies and operational workflows.

  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to:

    • Lead and motivate teams to achieve goals.

    • Manage absences, daily operations, and employee engagement.

    • Identify weaknesses and deliver educational interventions.

    • Negotiate, resolve conflicts, and handle critical situations.
