Salary: $85,000 - $100,000 (dependent on experience)

Job Overview

The Associate Director of the Counseling Center at the University of Cincinnati (UC) oversees the daily administration of the center, working alongside the Director to manage clinical operations, policies, and staff supervision.

This role involves hiring, staff evaluation, clinical oversight, and strategic planning for the center’s mental health services. The Associate Director also plays a key role in training psychology professionals, providing direct counseling services, and maintaining UC CAPS' commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.


Key Responsibilities

Administrative & Leadership Duties

  • Act as the backup administrator to the Director.
  • Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures.
  • Supervise clinical staff and graduate trainees.
  • Manage the reception area’s clinical functions and client assignment strategies.
  • Oversee budget preparation, fund allocation, and hiring processes.
  • Support the American Psychological Association (APA) Accredited Internship Training Program.
  • Maintain equity, inclusion, and excellence in the CAPS community.

Clinical Services & Supervision

  • Provide direct counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and outreach services.
  • Develop strategies for individual & group services, assessments, and AOD (Alcohol and Other Drug) programs.
  • Supervise graduate trainees and assist with staff development.
  • Utilize evidence-based best practices for high-quality mental health care.

Collaboration & Outreach

  • Serve as a resource for equity and inclusion within UC CAPS and the greater UC community.
  • Participate in campus-wide mental health initiatives.
  • Maintain strong communication with all CAPS staff to foster a supportive work environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or Clinical Psychology.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in Ohio (must obtain licensure within six months of employment).
  • Five (5) years of clinical experience post-degree, with two (2) years in college counseling and demonstrated supervisory/administrative responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D.) in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program.
  • Completed APA-accredited internship.
  • Experience in higher education college counseling centers.
  • Knowledge of electronic health record programs.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
