Vice President II, Data & Statistical Sciences

Position Overview

The Vice President II, Data & Statistical Sciences is a senior executive leadership role responsible for shaping and overseeing the global strategy for biostatistics, statistical programming, clinical data management, and data science. This position ensures data integrity, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and innovation across all clinical programs. The VP II will lead the development of modern data systems, analytical processes, and organizational capabilities that drive high-quality, timely, and scalable data delivery throughout the drug development lifecycle.

This leader will collaborate closely with executive management, regulatory authorities, and cross-functional partners to advance Exelixis’ clinical pipeline and support evidence generation for regulatory submissions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership across biostatistics, statistical programming, clinical data management, and data science functions.

  • Partner with executive leadership to align long-term vision, operational direction, and innovation priorities.

  • Lead the design, planning, and statistical strategy for Phase I–IV clinical studies, including statistical analysis plans and data standards.

  • Represent Data & Statistical Sciences on executive committees, joint-development forums, and drug safety boards.

  • Oversee CRO operations and ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and corporate objectives.

  • Serve as a senior scientific representative in interactions with global Health Authorities.

  • Establish and implement best practices, SOPs, and modern data methodologies to improve efficiency, quality, and compliance.

  • Guide vendor selection and management across CROs, FSPs, and consultants to support organizational goals.

  • Manage departmental budget, headcount planning, and resource allocation.

  • Foster an inclusive, growth-oriented culture that values transparency, accountability, and talent development.

  • Maintain industry presence and credibility by engaging with key opinion leaders.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of senior leaders across multiple functional areas.

  • Indirect leadership influence through subordinate managers and strategic teams.


Education & Experience Requirements

Education

  • PhD in Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related discipline, with 20 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • 20+ years of progressive experience in biostatistics, including 10+ years at VP-level or equivalent senior management scope.

  • Proven success leading global data and statistical sciences within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors.

  • Extensive regulatory interaction experience, including Health Authority meetings and submission preparation.

  • Demonstrated leadership across Phase I–IV clinical trials and regulatory filings.

  • Strong expertise in oncology/hematology trial designs and associated regulatory endpoints.

  • Ability to drive strategy, operational excellence, and measurable outcomes in a complex, matrixed environment.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of biostatistics, statistical programming, clinical data management, and data science within pharmaceutical R&D.

  • Advanced knowledge of innovative clinical trial designs and modern analytical methodologies.

  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to optimize resources, manage budgets, and drive operational efficiency.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional and executive-level influence.

  • Ability to convert scientific and strategic visions into actionable, results-driven plans.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams across diverse disciplines.

  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality outputs while meeting complex milestones and regulatory requirements.


Work Environment

This position is based in a collaborative, modern open-plan office designed to support innovation, teamwork, and productivity. Ergonomic equipment and dual-monitor setups are provided. Travel is required.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: USD 384,000 – 446,000 annually (adjusted by geographic market).

  • Compensation is determined by experience, skills, internal equity, and work location.
