Role Overview

The Translational Science / Biomarker Operations Expert is a sponsor-dedicated role responsible for the operational execution of biomarker and translational science activities across clinical trials. This position serves as a key interface between Translational Science, Clinical Operations, Data Management, Biostatistics, laboratory vendors, and external partners to ensure high-quality biomarker sample collection, data integrity, and timely delivery of translational insights.

This role is critical in enabling precision medicine strategies and supporting regulatory-compliant biomarker operations across global clinical development programs.


Key Responsibilities

Translational Science & Biomarker Operations

  • Collaborate closely with Translational Science Leads, Clinical Operations, Biostatistics/Bioinformatics, and Data Management teams to support and execute translational science strategies within clinical trials.

  • Provide operational input into study protocols, lab manuals, sample management plans, and other study documentation to ensure biomarker activities align with GCP, ICH, and regulatory requirements.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for biomarker operations across internal functions, CROs, laboratories, and external collaborators.

Data & Vendor Management

  • Partner with Data Management teams to support biomarker-related database setup, data formats, transfer specifications, reconciliation, and delivery timelines.

  • Manage global laboratory vendors, including contracting support, oversight of timelines, data quality control, reporting, and issue resolution.

  • Support mutual data transfers with Companion Diagnostics (CDx) partners for regulatory submissions when required.

Sample Logistics & Oversight

  • Oversee clinical biomarker sample logistics, including site feasibility assessments, site training, sample shipment, and real-time sample tracking.

  • Ensure continuous sample reconciliation and provide oversight to support selection of samples for downstream analysis.

  • Monitor operational performance and proactively address risks related to sample integrity, timelines, and data completeness.

Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Support biomarker data analysis activities, including data processing, curation, integration, and development of tables, figures, and listings.

  • Share operational learnings across studies and programs, identifying best practices and opportunities for process improvement.

  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across translational science initiatives.


Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–8 years of relevant industry experience in translational science, biomarker operations, or clinical drug development.

  • Hands-on experience with clinical laboratory sample processing and/or biomarker analysis in a clinical research environment.

  • Proven experience supporting precision medicine strategies and biomarker-driven clinical trials.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of clinical drug development processes and biomarker integration across study phases.

  • Demonstrated experience managing global laboratory vendors and external partners.

  • Solid project management, planning, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate within cross-functional, multicultural, and geographically dispersed teams.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a global professional environment.

  • Adaptive mindset with the ability to work in iterative cycles and support inclusive, high-performing teams.
