Position Overview

The Therapeutic Area Head – Cardio Metabolic and Intensive Care serves as a senior executive leader responsible for providing strategic, scientific, and operational oversight across global clinical development programs within cardiology, metabolic disorders, and intensive care therapeutic areas. This role operates at the Senior Vice President (SVP) level and plays a critical role in driving delivery excellence, financial performance, innovation, and long-term client partnerships.

As a key member of the Global Project Management and Clinical Development leadership team, the role combines deep therapeutic expertise with executive-level decision-making to ensure the successful execution of complex, high-value clinical programs across all phases of development.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Executive Leadership

  • Define and execute the global delivery strategy for Cardio Metabolic and Intensive Care programs in alignment with organizational and client objectives.

  • Anticipate evolving therapeutic, regulatory, and operational trends to strengthen Syneos Health’s market leadership.

  • Drive scalable, efficient, and innovative clinical delivery models across global operations.

Scientific Leadership and External Engagement

  • Serve as a recognized scientific authority in cardiovascular, metabolic, and intensive care indications.

  • Engage with senior client stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and industry leaders as a trusted advisor.

  • Represent Syneos Health at scientific conferences, advisory boards, and industry forums.

Portfolio and Operational Oversight

  • Provide executive oversight of global CMIC clinical portfolios from early-phase through late-stage development.

  • Ensure delivery excellence, risk mitigation, governance effectiveness, and compliance with ICH-GCP standards.

  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, quality, regulatory, and scientific teams to optimize outcomes.

Client Management and Business Growth

  • Act as the senior executive sponsor for key strategic accounts within the CMIC portfolio.

  • Support business development activities, including bid defenses, RFIs, and strategic client presentations.

  • Identify and drive opportunities for portfolio expansion and long-term client partnerships.

Financial and Performance Management

  • Maintain accountability for P&L performance, forecasting accuracy, and portfolio profitability.

  • Leverage operational analytics and performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making.

  • Ensure efficient resource planning and sustainable growth across global programs.

Talent Development and Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global leadership team (Vice President level and below).

  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

  • Partner with HR to strengthen leadership succession planning and talent pipelines.

Quality, Compliance, and Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure adherence to global regulatory standards, internal quality systems, and inspection readiness.

  • Champion process optimization initiatives to enhance scalability, efficiency, and client satisfaction.

  • Model a culture of operational integrity and quality excellence.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, or a related discipline (MS, PharmD, MD, or equivalent required; PhD preferred).

  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in clinical research, clinical operations, or project management within CRO, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology environments.

  • Demonstrated leadership of complex, global clinical development programs in cardiology, metabolic diseases, or intensive care.

  • Proven experience managing large-scale portfolios and leading multi-layered global teams.

  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L responsibility.

  • In-depth knowledge of global drug development processes, ICH-GCP guidelines, and regulatory expectations.

  • Executive-level communication skills with the ability to influence C-suite and senior client stakeholders.

  • Strategic mindset with a track record of innovation, transformation, and operational excellence.

  • Willingness to travel internationally as required (approximately 30–35%).

Compensation and Benefits

Syneos Health offers a comprehensive total rewards package designed to support professional growth and work-life balance. Compensation includes a competitive base salary, performance-based incentives, and a robust benefits program.

Indicative Salary Range: USD 245,600 – 454,300 (final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and geographic location).
