Job Description

Johnson & Johnson is hiring for the position of R&D Technician II – Shockwave, based in Santa Clara, CA. This role supports the development of cutting-edge Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) technology used to treat calcified cardiovascular disease. The successful candidate will work across multiple cross-functional teams from concept through commercialization.


Position Overview

The R&D Technician II will use hands-on technical skills in the development of innovative products targeting peripheral, coronary, and heart valve diseases. The work will focus on disposable device prototyping, fabrication, and testing in collaboration with engineers and technicians.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create functional prototypes from design concepts

  • Assist in transferring R&D builds to manufacturing

  • Support product builds throughout R&D phases and provide assembly feedback

  • Collaborate with engineers and other technicians on product assembly and procedure development

  • Assist in design, process, and equipment development and validation

  • Prepare test samples for routine and qualification testing

  • Build and assemble product prototypes

  • Troubleshoot issues in procedures or instruments

  • Document concepts, designs, and test processes accurately

  • Perform other assigned duties


Requirements

  • High School Diploma with a minimum of 2 years’ technician experience, or 3 years of hands-on medical device experience

  • Preferred experience with:

    • Balloon catheters

    • Hydrophilic coatings

    • Cardiovascular medical devices

  • Experience working under a microscope

  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and laboratory protocols

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Ability to work in a cleanroom and lift up to 25 lbs

  • Effective communication and multitasking skills


Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $22.66 – $36.24

  • Bonus: Eligible for annual performance-based cash bonus

  • Incentives: May include participation in the company’s long-term incentive program
