Job Summary

The Principal Clinical Programmer will serve as a technical and functional leader within the clinical programming team, providing end-to-end expertise in electronic data capture (EDC) builds, custom functions, system integrations, and programming deliverables. This role requires managing multiple studies or programs, mentoring clinical programmers, collaborating with sponsors, and ensuring the highest standards in database design, validation, and reporting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on core business applications (Medidata, Rave, Oracle Inform, SAS, etc.).

  • Design, develop, validate, and maintain software to meet study specifications in compliance with standard development procedures.

  • Develop and maintain documentation for CRFs, database creation, edit checks, imports/exports, listings, and custom reports.

  • Proactively monitor applications for workflow alerts, performance issues, and programming defects.

  • Lead study/project-level programming activities, coordinating timelines, deliverables, and resources.

  • Perform system integrations, application upgrades, and user acceptance testing.

  • Oversee 5–20 concurrent studies, providing technical oversight and guidance to other programmers.

  • Participate in project review meetings, bid defenses, and sponsor audits.

  • Provide senior review of multi-study or program-level deliverables.

  • Manage project metrics, scope, budgets, and change orders.

  • Mentor junior programmers, conduct performance reviews, and support career development.

  • Collaborate with clients, cross-functional teams, and vendors to ensure data quality and timely delivery.

  • Contribute to departmental SOPs and process improvements.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 8+ years of experience in end-to-end clinical programming, with strong expertise in Rave EDC or Veeva EDC.

  • Proven experience in:

    • Study/Database build

    • eCRF development

    • Edit checks programming

    • Data migrations & post-production changes (PPC)

    • Custom Functions programming in Rave EDC

  • Prior Lead Clinical Programmer experience is a must.

  • Strong experience with sponsors and internal stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as PL/SQL, SAS, C#, or VB preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a matrixed environment.

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% (as required).


Salary Range

₹28,00,000 – ₹40,00,000 per annum (estimated, based on senior/principal clinical programming roles in India with global CROs).
