About the Role

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Sr. Scientific Support Specialist – Manufacturing Media/Buffer Prep Specialist to support high-impact scientific operations at a leading customer site. This position plays a crucial role in preparing specialized media and buffer solutions essential for biopharmaceutical manufacturing and clinical research.

As part of Unity Lab Services within Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will contribute directly to research excellence, operational efficiency, and laboratory readiness—helping accelerate the development of life-changing therapies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare high-quality media and buffer solutions according to defined specifications and batch requirements.

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment including mixers, peristaltic pumps, pressurized vessels, scales, pH and conductivity meters, fume hoods, and filtration systems.

  • Follow established SOPs, safety procedures, and quality standards to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Perform pH and conductivity measurements, sterile filtration, equipment assembly/disassembly, and multi-kilo scale buffer preparation.

  • Review calculations, verify technical documentation, and maintain precise logbooks and batch records.

  • Scan, archive, and manage documentation to support GMP/GLP compliance.

  • Provide technical support, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor junior staff as needed.

  • Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific with professionalism at customer sites and maintain strong customer relationships.

  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to support productivity and laboratory performance.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, equipment operation, safety protocols, and documentation practices.

  • Ability to work independently during high-volume operational periods while also contributing effectively within diverse teams.

  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to use handheld scanners and learn data-entry systems.

  • Demonstrated initiative, confidentiality, and attention to detail.


Experience Level

  • Required:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.

    • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in laboratory environments with PPE.

  • Preferred:

    • Associate degree in a scientific discipline or 2+ years of laboratory or manufacturing support experience.

    • Experience in GMP/GLP environments or biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

    • Prior experience preparing buffers, media, or working in pilot plant operations.


Working Conditions

  • Onsite work at customer laboratory, office, stockroom, and shipping/receiving locations.

  • Frequent walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling of 30–40 lbs; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Use of manual handling equipment including carts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.

  • Required use of personal protective equipment (safety glasses, lab coats, gloves, masks, steel-toe shoes, etc.).

  • Exposure to chemical-based materials, strong odors, and hazardous substances.

  • Flexible work hours to meet production needs, which may include weekends or rotating shifts.


Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly Pay Range (California): USD 21.82 – 26.50
