Position Summary
Phoenix Children’s is seeking a Senior Infection Preventionist to collaborate with leadership, medical, and nursing staff to develop strategies that reduce infection risk and achieve top-tier performance for key infection prevention measures. The role involves leading infection prevention teams, applying advanced statistical tools, conducting surveillance, and applying evidence-based practices to improve infection control activities across the organization. The Senior Infection Preventionist also serves as a mentor, offering professional guidance and development.

Position Duties

Surveillance Activities
- Applies standardized case finding methods to HAI (healthcare-associated infections).
- Utilizes NHSN to report and validate HAIs.
- Conducts electronic surveillance and data mining for reporting.
- Provides graphic data displays and integrates data into strategic programs.
- Leads collaborative efforts for process improvements from surveillance outcomes.
Infection Prevention and Control Activities
- Serves as an expert in infection control projects and initiatives.
- Uses professional judgment to prioritize tasks and streamline processes.
- Monitors and supports isolation activities and applies advanced epidemiological methods.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff and clinicians.
- Collaborates with state and local public health agencies.
Education
- Educates staff and stakeholders using various presentation techniques.
- Creates educational materials and training for RN staff, clinicians, and patients.
- Develops orientation and mandatory infection prevention training for employees.
- Leads education initiatives related to health and wellness, infection, and exposure prevention.

Qualifications

Education & Certification
- Must have a CIC (Certification in Infection Control).
- Preference for 5 years of infection prevention experience in acute care settings.
Experience
- Expertise in infection prevention core competencies: prevention, surveillance, and control.
- Strong knowledge of epidemiology, study design, and process improvement.
- Ability to interpret research data and apply findings to practice.
- Proven leadership and mentoring abilities in infection prevention.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to conduct comprehensive data analysis using advanced statistical tools.
- Skilled at using electronic infection control data mining systems.
- Strong communication skills for presenting to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
- Proficient in creating educational materials and implementing effective training programs.
