Job Purpose

The Sr. Director – Scientific Content leads the strategic development, coordination, and execution of scientific content and congress narratives across the Cardiometabolic Health therapeutic area. The role ensures alignment with overall scientific strategy, cross-functional priorities, and external engagement objectives, enhancing Lilly’s scientific presence and influence.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Communication & Storytelling

  • Lead strategic development and execution of congress narratives aligned with global scientific strategy.

  • Develop scientific Point-of-View (POV) content starting from Phase 2 molecules, integrating cross-functional coordination.

  • Drive holistic scientific disclosure rollouts at key congresses (e.g., ACC, ADA, EASD, ESC, Obesity Week, ECO, AHA).

  • Collaborate with CMH Strategy and Operations teams to ensure integrated engagement and strategic coherence.

  • Leverage emerging technologies, including AI-driven content solutions, to enhance message delivery.

  • Evaluate and optimize internal workflows to improve efficiency, consistency, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Define success metrics and use data to guide iterative improvements in content strategy and execution.

2. Leadership, Collaboration & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and champion CMH GMA culture and engagement strategies.

  • Act as a coach and mentor to team members within and outside the department.

  • Build critical cross-functional relationships to achieve operational effectiveness.

  • Communicate complex scientific information clearly and effectively.

  • Conceptualize and implement new storytelling formats to enhance scientific impact.

  • Lead cross-functional change initiatives, driving measurable improvements in processes and outcomes.

  • Inspire and align teams around strategic vision, translating complex ideas into clear direction.

  • Balance internal and external stakeholder needs with flexibility and professionalism.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree.

  • 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, Development, Marketing, or Communications.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States full-time (no visa sponsorship).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical communications agency experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of diabetes, obesity, and other cardiometabolic disease states.

  • Supervisory or team lead experience.

  • Change-management experience.

  • Experience leading diverse cross-functional teams and complex deliverables.

  • Experience collaborating with executive leadership.


Additional Information

  • Travel: 10–20% domestic and international.

  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.

  • Full-time on-site in Indianapolis; remote work not available.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Anticipated Salary: $150,000 – $237,600

  • Eligible for company bonus based on performance.
