Job Description:

The Social Science Research Professional (SSRP) will perform research tasks using scientific methods and judgment in situations without clear precedent. Responsibilities include developing and administering surveys, managing data and databases, auditing data accuracy, conducting literature reviews, assisting with statistical analysis, and collaborating on communication materials. The SSRP may work with human subjects and contribute to clinical research, while assisting in data extraction and reporting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute research tasks using basic scientific theory.

  • Collaborate with supervisor or PI to interpret study results.

  • Develop/administer surveys and rating scales; audit data for accuracy.

  • Manage active research databases and maintain compliance documentation.

  • Identify, extract, and summarize data for research and presentations.

  • Conduct literature reviews and write summaries/manuscripts.

  • Apply statistical programs to build and organize research data.

  • Design materials (questionnaires, strategies, recruitment tools) based on supervisor guidance.

  • Assist with IRB renewals and approvals.

  • Develop communications including web updates, social media, and white papers.

  • Train or orient new staff/students.

  • Recruit patients for clinical studies, if required.

  • Assist with medical record access and data analysis for large datasets.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a social science-related field or equivalent education/experience.

  • General understanding of scientific theory/methods.

  • Strong computer and data organization skills.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage detailed work independently.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Comfortable working with human study participants.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience managing and analyzing large datasets (e.g., HCUP, IBM MarketScan).

  • Capable of leading qualitative/mixed-methods data analysis.

  • Prior experience with IRB documentation and regulatory compliance.

  • Experience with clinical data.

  • Basic statistical skills (e.g., chi-square, t-tests).

  • Co-authorship on published academic papers.

  • Skilled in creating PowerPoint presentations.
