Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Medical Coding

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Medical Coding to support high-quality coding operations with a strong emphasis on orthopedic surgery coding. This role requires advanced coding expertise, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to guide, mentor, and train junior coders while maintaining high accuracy and productivity standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately code orthopedic surgery records with a minimum of 96 percent accuracy, ensuring compliance with industry guidelines and turnaround time requirements.

  • Consistently achieve and exceed established productivity benchmarks for surgical medical coding.

  • Maintain updated knowledge of coding standards, guidelines, and regulatory changes by actively participating in coding workshops, conferences, and continuing education programs.

  • Support capability building by training and mentoring junior surgery coders to ensure quality and consistency in coding practices.

  • Contribute to process improvements to enhance coding accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.


Experience Required

  • Minimum 6 years of hands-on experience in medical coding, with a total professional experience of 8 years.

  • Proven experience in orthopedic surgery coding with demonstrated accuracy and speed.

  • Prior experience mentoring, training, or guiding coding teams is preferred.


Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline.

  • Valid coding certifications such as CPC or CCS (AAPC or AHIMA).

  • Strong understanding of surgical coding guidelines, medical terminology, and ICD/CPT coding standards.

  • Ability to work with high attention to detail and maintain accuracy under productivity-driven environments.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
