Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Medical Coding with specialized expertise in orthopedic surgical coding. The ideal candidate will demonstrate superior coding accuracy, ensure compliance with coding standards, and mentor junior coders to drive operational excellence. This role is critical for maintaining high-quality coding outcomes while supporting process improvements in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
The position requires a minimum of 6 years of professional coding experience and 8 years of overall experience in medical coding, with strong proficiency in surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately code orthopedic surgery records with a minimum 96% accuracy, meeting established turnaround time targets.
Maintain and exceed productivity standards for surgical medical coding.
Conduct regular quality checks and audits of coding assignments to ensure compliance with current coding guidelines (CPC, CCS) and organizational standards.
Update and enhance coding knowledge by actively participating in professional training, coding workshops, and educational conferences.
Mentor and train junior coders, providing guidance on coding best practices, complex surgical procedures, and compliance requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure coding accuracy, consistency, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or related field.
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and/or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
Minimum 6 years of professional coding experience and 8 years overall experience, with a strong focus on orthopedic surgery coding.
Proven track record of maintaining high coding accuracy and meeting turnaround time expectations.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures.
Experience in training and mentoring junior coders.
