Position Overview:

As a Senior Therapy Development Specialist in Abbott's Structural Heart Division, you will play a key role in supporting clinical trials and therapy development related to structural heart disease. This field-based position will work closely with clinical trial teams, physicians, and research staff to ensure successful clinical trial enrollment, raise awareness about clinical trials, and support trial site productivity. Your primary responsibility will be to develop relationships with stakeholders, facilitate patient recruitment, and ensure the smooth execution of clinical trial activities in the assigned territory (St. Louis/Kansas City).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Trial Enrollment & Coordination:

    • Develop strategies to drive clinical trial enrollment at assigned sites, ensuring targets are met.
    • Establish regular communication with site investigators and research teams to promote trial visibility and streamline patient screening processes.
    • Identify and address barriers to enrollment, implementing escalation plans as necessary.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Build and maintain relationships with cardiologists, surgeons, and other key stakeholders to facilitate trial enrollment and support therapy development.
    • Organize referral meetings and awareness activities to generate education and trial awareness among general cardiologists and primary care physicians.
    • Coordinate with hospital public affairs to increase trial awareness across neighboring institutions.
  • Trial Support & Education:

    • Provide tools and best practices to site teams to qualify trial candidates and ensure smooth procedural outcomes.
    • Stay up to date on product and clinical trial knowledge, actively participating in relevant education programs.
    • Lead or assist in educational programs aimed at healthcare professionals.
  • Data Tracking & Reporting:

    • Monitor patient pipeline data, track trial enrollment progress, and identify trends and needs within the clinical trial ecosystem.
    • Utilize analytical tools to assist with planning and managing referral activities.
  • Travel:

    • The role requires approximately 50% travel to clinical sites and other business-related activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred, particularly in a scientific or medical field.

  • Experience:

    • A minimum of 8+ years in a related field with comprehensive knowledge of clinical trials, medical device industry experience, and a deep understanding of the clinical research process.
    • Experience in both sales and clinical research (particularly in field clinical affairs) is a strong plus.
    • Familiarity with catheterization lab procedures and clinical trial protocols is essential.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage at all organizational levels.
  • Skills:

    • Strong organizational and leadership abilities, with attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and multitask while meeting deadlines in a dynamic environment.
    • Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Additional Requirements:

    • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time within the assigned territory.

Salary Range:

  • The base pay for this position is between $83,000.00 and $166,000.00, with variations depending on location.
