Position Overview:

As a Research Associate I in the Research and Early Tech Development team at Roche, you will have the unique opportunity to apply your chemistry expertise to execute a range of analytical and bioanalytical procedures in laboratory settings. Working both under supervision and independently, you will support product development goals and collaborate with various teams within the company.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Experimentation & Data Analysis:

    • Run daily experiments and analyze data in Electrochemistry, Surface Chemistry, and Fluidics laboratories.
    • Document experimental procedures, data, and results with precision in accordance with company standards.
  • Reagent & Solution Preparation:

    • Prepare necessary reagents and solutions following good laboratory practices.
    • Maintain accurate records and adhere to documentation methods that support product development timelines.
  • Collaboration:

    • Interact with internal teams to plan and expedite project objectives.
    • Present findings at meetings and propose new strategies to address upcoming technical issues.
  • Scientific Support:

    • Provide support for the development and technology transfer of diagnostic products.
    • Research and apply relevant scientific and technical literature to inform development efforts.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:

    • A BSc degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field is required.
    • An MSc is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry laboratory, preferably in an R&D setting after obtaining the BSc degree.
    • Experience with Analytical Chemistry instruments is required.
  • Desirable Experience:

    • Hands-on experience with electrophoresis and PCR techniques is desirable but not required.
    • Familiarity with microfluidics, electro-wetting technologies, and electroanalytical methods like CV, EIS, and SWV is a plus.
    • Experience with statistical analysis methods, and knowledge of JMP and MATLAB/Simulink is an advantage.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Core Competencies:

    • Strong proficiency in Chemistry concepts, including sample handling, buffer and reagent preparation, pH measurement, spectroscopic methods, and instrument calibration.
    • Hands-on experience with molecular biology methods (e.g., PCR, PAGE/agarose electrophoresis) is advantageous.
  • Problem-Solving & Communication:

    • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and judgment skills.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively present findings and technical issues.

  • Salary Range:

    • Expected salary range: $49,000 - $91,000 USD annually, based on experience and qualifications.
    • A discretionary annual bonus may be available, based on individual and company performance.
