About the Role

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a highly experienced Senior Research Director, Patient Experience to lead direct-to-patient observational research within Evidera’s Patient-Centered Research (PCR) division. This fully remote role focuses on advancing global patient experience insights, supporting product development, and driving evidence-based decision-making across the life sciences sector.

The Senior Research Director will oversee scientific strategy, high-impact patient experience studies, cross-functional collaboration, and the development of junior researchers. This position plays a critical role in delivering high-quality research outputs that support global health outcomes and regulatory needs.


Experience Level Required

  • Senior-Level Leadership

  • 10+ years of experience with a PhD, OR

  • 15+ years of experience with a Master’s degree, OR equivalent expertise

  • Extensive experience in patient-centered research, health outcomes, observational research, and direct-to-patient study design

  • Strong background in scientific consulting with external and internal clients

  • Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications, scientific leadership, and research innovation


Key Responsibilities

1. Research Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead and expand an individual portfolio of direct-to-patient observational research.

  • Ensure scientific quality, methodological rigor, and strategic value of client deliverables.

  • Manage project resources and budgets to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.

  • Develop proposals and complex research frameworks ensuring high scientific integrity.

2. Scientific Strategy & Excellence

  • Serve as a senior scientific consultant to internal teams and clients.

  • Maintain strong visibility in the scientific community through publications, conferences, and thought leadership.

  • Lead and review quantitative and qualitative analyses, ensuring accuracy of study results and deliverables.

  • Contribute to innovation and scientific advancement within the PCR organization.

3. Strategic Consulting & Collaboration

  • Influence PCR’s scientific goals and strategic direction.

  • Provide expert consultation to regulatory bodies, scientific advisory boards, and client leadership teams.

  • Develop innovative research strategies and cross-unit collaborations within Evidera.

  • Support business development through scientific presentations and client engagement.

4. Team Development & Management

  • Participate in recruiting junior and mid-level scientific staff.

  • Mentor and supervise scientific personnel, ensuring high standards of scientific performance.

  • Support training activities that strengthen PCR’s scientific capabilities.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • PhD with 10+ years experience, OR

  • Master’s degree with 15+ years experience, OR

  • Equivalent advanced experience in health outcomes, epidemiology, patient-centered research, or related disciplines.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Demonstrated record of scientific publications and research impact.

  • Strong consulting experience with clients in pharma, biotech, or CRO environments.

  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; familiarity with SAS or similar statistical tools.

  • Ability to lead complex research programs, mentor scientific teams, and collaborate across business units.

  • Proven networking abilities and experience supporting business development.


Work Environment

  • Fully remote, home-based role within the United States

  • Standard Monday–Friday schedule

  • Collaborative engagement with global colleagues across the PPD® and Thermo Fisher Scientific network
