As a Senior Medical Editor, you will lead and manage medical editing for complex and large projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines, quality standards, and client specifications. You will collaborate with medical writers and cross-departmental teams, providing guidance, mentoring, and maintaining high editorial quality across documents.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Editorial Leadership:

    • Lead editorial tasks within medical writing teams, ensuring adherence to FDA, EU, and other relevant guidelines.
    • Represent the editorial group in study teams and cross-functional project teams.
    • Oversee project timelines and budgets, updating relevant stakeholders if deliverables are at risk.
  2. Editorial and Data Integrity:

    • Provide editorial support on data integrity, ensuring that all documents meet high standards for accuracy and quality.
    • Copyedit documents, focusing on grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style according to AMA or custom guidelines.
    • Conduct data integrity reviews to ensure document accuracy.
  3. Project Management:

    • Lead assigned projects, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
    • Organize and schedule internal project meetings, ensuring that requirements are communicated and implemented.
    • Compile and publish medical writing deliverables as necessary.
  4. Training and Mentorship:

    • Mentor and train medical editing staff, offering guidance on best practices and technical support.
    • Advise medical writers and editorial teams on data integrity review, publishing, and editorial standards.
  5. Process Improvement:

    • Contribute to the development and revision of internal policies and procedures to improve editorial processes.
    • Help develop tools for process improvement within the editorial team.

Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, clinical sciences, English/journalism, or a relevant field; experience in copyediting, data integrity review, and publishing is a plus.
  • Experience:

    • Significant experience in publishing, including familiarity with tools like Adobe Acrobat and ISIToolbox.
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Experience with FDA and EU guidelines, ICH regulations, and ISO standards for regulatory documents preferred.
  • Skills:

    • Excellent attention to detail with strong copyediting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Familiarity with the AMA style guide is preferred.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines.
