Role Overview

As a Senior Expert in Science & Technology – Microbiology, you will play a pivotal role in driving microbiological excellence within analytical R&D. You will design, plan, and execute scientific studies that support drug substance and product development across various clinical phases, bridging analytical science to clinical performance.

This position is based at Genome Valley, Hyderabad, within the TRD organization of GDD.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee microbiology activities with third-party partners, including SOP review and development, deviation management, and capability development.

  • Collaborate with external laboratories to ensure adherence to contamination control strategies, cleanroom classification, and aseptic risk assessments.

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for microbiological testing, method development, validation, and technology transfers.

  • Advance adoption of ARD digital solutions, monitor method lifecycle metrics, and lead automation and simplification initiatives.

  • Manage external partnerships, ensuring method readiness, training, transfers, quality expectations, and resolution of technical gaps.

  • Design, plan, and interpret experiments with minimal guidance; ensure alignment with regulatory guidelines and scientific literature.

  • Prepare, review, and approve analytical documentation, including batch records, method validations, stability reports, SOPs, and technical reports, ensuring compliance with Novartis and global health authority standards.

  • Foster collaboration with internal teams and stakeholders including QA, Technical Operations, and external partners.

  • Adhere to quality, compliance, and documentation standards (ALCOA+, GLP, OQM, HSE, ISEC).

  • Mentor team members, actively participate in projects, and contribute to departmental goals and objectives.


Qualifications

Required:

  • PhD in Microbiology or related field with minimum 6 years of relevant experience, or M.Pharm/M.Sc in Microbiology with minimum 12 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • 6–12 years of proven experience in GxP-compliant laboratories, with leadership in microbiology method development, validation, and technology transfers.

  • Demonstrated analytical rigor, scientific judgment, and SME-level knowledge in microbiology.

  • Strong technical writing, scientific reporting, and presentation skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration capabilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience in digital solution adoption and laboratory automation.

  • Track record of contributions to publications, presentations, or scientific advisory boards.
