The Position:

The Senior Director of Clinical Informatics leads the Clinical Data Science & Evidence (CDSE) department’s clinical informatics functions. This role will oversee the development of clinical informatics tools to support the CMR organization. The individual will serve as a subject matter expert on clinical and medical informatics software and systems, working closely with the Real-World Evidence department and managing a team of internal informaticists. The Senior Director will also share best practices, drive the broader adoption of clinical informatics tools, and act as a leader within Novo Nordisk, the broader organization, and the industry.

Relationships:

  • Reports to: VP of CDSE

  • Provides leadership to the clinical informatics team and collaborates with other CDSE, CMR, and global functions.

  • Represents Novo Nordisk across NNI, NN, and the external medical community, including scientific conferences, key opinion leaders, and advisory boards.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the clinical informatics team in CDSE to develop tools supporting the CMR organization.

  • Act as a subject matter expert and leader in clinical informatics, driving the development of capabilities to meet evolving needs.

  • Own and implement the CMR Clinical Informatics Strategy.

  • Provide strategic guidance on all internal clinical informatics tool development and customer partnership activities.

  • Ensure alignment of clinical informatics tools with NNI enterprise strategy and global strategies.

  • Serve as a key player in senior-level oversight and due diligence related to CDSE functions.

  • Foster relationships with US and global thought leaders and KOLs, representing Novo Nordisk in external professional societies, pharma associations, and conventions.

Development of People:

  • Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDPs) aligned with business priorities and performance metrics.

  • Oversee the application of Novo Nordisk policies and procedures and ensure team members understand their responsibilities.

  • Promote the growth and development of team members by ensuring appropriate learning plans are in place.

Physical Requirements:

  • 10-20% overnight travel required.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience:

    • Doctoral degree in clinical or life sciences (MD, PharmD, PhD, DNP, DrPH) preferred.

    • Graduate degree or clinical fellowship in informatics-related fields (health informatics, clinical informatics, epidemiology, data science, etc.) preferred.

    • 10+ years of informatics experience preferred.

    • 3+ years of leadership experience in an informatics capacity preferred.

    • Board certification in medical informatics preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Strong interpersonal and collaborative relationship-building skills.

    • Superior strategic and tactical planning experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or technology settings.

    • Solid understanding of the US healthcare system.
