Position Summary:

The Senior Biostatistician Manager oversees statistical activities and deliverables across a broad research area, with a focus on vaccines and infectious diseases. This role provides guidance to senior statistical staff, ensures timely and quality statistical outputs, and manages resources including budgets and personnel. The manager acts as a client contact and collaborates across teams to support clinical research objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of Biostatistician Managers and oversee statistical deliverables for a broad research portfolio.

  • Serve as the primary client contact for statistical deliverables on large projects, fostering collaboration with sponsors and project teams.

  • Manage budgeting and staffing resources to ensure projects are appropriately staffed and deadlines met.

  • Develop strategic vision for the biostatistics department in partnership with the Director of Biostatistics.

  • Act as an internal point of contact for budgeting, staffing, and statistical activities across the company.

  • Participate in recruiting and hiring of new statistical staff members.

  • Provide expert consultation on statistical matters across projects.

  • Supervise, mentor, and promote career development of senior statistical staff.

  • Represent Emmes at Sponsor, Regulatory, Investigator, or Safety Review meetings, including Data and Safety Monitoring Board meetings.

  • Establish budgets for statistical activities for new projects.

  • Identify statistical and operational issues, proposing solutions.

  • Review and approve clinical project materials requiring statistical input for scientific validity and feasibility.

  • Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for statistical processes.

  • Engage in quality assurance activities with a focus on statistical aspects.

  • Provide personnel supervision, training, and performance reviews for project staff.

  • Report project status updates to the Director of Biostatistics.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or related field.

  • Minimum 7 years (PhD) or 10 years (MS) experience in clinical research leadership and supervising senior statistical staff.

  • Expertise in advanced data manipulation and statistical analysis techniques.

  • Proven leadership skills in managing clinical research teams.

  • Strong abilities in prioritization, problem-solving, organization, decision-making, time management, negotiation, mentoring, and planning.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, detail-oriented, with ability to multitask and work independently.

  • Excellent communication skills for conveying technical concepts in both written and oral forms.
