Job Overview

Planet Pharma is seeking a highly motivated Scientist for a 12-month contract position within the neuroscience research enterprise in Cambridge, MA. The role focuses on Parkinson’s Disease (PD), aiming to develop disease-modifying therapeutics. As a member of the Parkinson’s Biology Area team, you will contribute to uncovering the biological mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases and assist in drug discovery for PD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of new in vitro models for PD research.
  • Execute in vitro experiments to create cellular models using immortalized cell lines, primary neurons, and/or iPSC-derived neurons.
  • Design and perform biochemical and cell-based assays to validate novel PD drug targets.
  • Collaborate with molecular biologists, pharmacologists, and chemists across global research sites.
  • Present research findings at internal meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in molecular biology (typically 5+ years of experience). Pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred.
  • Expertise in gene transfection, vector design, clonal cell line selection, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in standard cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and neuroscience techniques, including gene transfer, microscopy, high-content imaging, protein detection & quantification (e.g., ELISA, MSD), and enzyme kinetic assays.
  • Extensive bench research experience in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to design, execute, and interpret experiments independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, along with a strong work ethic and organizational skills.
  • Background in cell biology, neuroscience, or neurodegenerative disease mechanisms (e.g., protein aggregation) is a plus.
