Position Overview:
Roche is seeking an experienced Scientific Strategy Director specializing in Cardiometabolism and Neurology to lead scientific strategy within the U.S. Medical & Scientific Affairs (MSA) organization. This senior leadership role is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive scientific strategies across multiple disease areas and diagnostic portfolios. The successful candidate will guide a high-performing team of Senior Scientific Managers, translate complex scientific insights into actionable strategies, and ensure alignment with global and cross-functional stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Talent Development: Mentor and coach direct reports, fostering growth, performance excellence, and succession planning across scientific and leadership roles.

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the VP of Medical & Scientific Affairs to define U.S. scientific priorities, integrating global perspectives and market insights.

  • Scientific Strategy Execution: Lead evidence generation, medical education, and external engagement initiatives to support Roche’s diagnostic portfolios.

  • Field Alignment: Partner with field leadership to ensure medical activities align with strategic objectives and incorporate field insights into planning.

  • External Collaboration: Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, professional societies, and industry partners to inform and advance scientific strategy.

  • Resource & Financial Management: Strategically allocate scientific resources, manage budgets effectively, and ensure optimal return on investment.

  • Culture & Innovation Leadership: Promote a culture of scientific excellence, continuous learning, and innovation across MSA and the broader organization.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:

    • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience, or

    • Master’s degree with 7+ years of relevant experience, or

    • Doctorate (PhD, MD, or equivalent) with 5+ years of relevant experience.

  • Leadership Experience: 3–5 years of direct people management experience in medical or scientific affairs.

  • Industry Expertise: Prior experience in Medical & Scientific Affairs roles, including strategy, field, and operations.

  • Scientific Knowledge: Experience in diagnostics, laboratory medicine, or clinical research, preferably in cardiometabolism or neurology.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work with commercial, R&D, regulatory, and alliance teams.

  • External Network: Established relationships with KOLs, professional societies, and healthcare stakeholders.

  • Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.

  • Decision-Making: Proven ability to navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and make strategic decisions with incomplete information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in diagnostic industry or clinical laboratory settings.

  • Previous exposure to multiple Medical & Scientific Affairs functions.

  • Track record of inspiring and aligning cross-functional teams.

Location & Compensation:

  • Primary location preference: Indianapolis, IN (Remote options possible)

  • Salary range: $175,300 – $325,500 (based on experience, qualifications, and location)

  • Discretionary annual bonus may apply
