Position Summary:

Join the Synthetic Molecule Design and Development (SMDD) division as a Scientific Director specializing in peptide process chemistry. Lead sustainable peptide development and commercialization projects in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment spanning the U.S., Asia, and Europe. Drive innovative, green chemistry approaches to peptide manufacturing at commercial scale.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of peptide chemists in designing and optimizing sustainable synthetic peptide processes.

  • Oversee multi-kilogram peptide process development at contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs).

  • Educate CMOs on greener peptide synthesis best practices.

  • Collaborate with Lilly Development and Manufacturing teams to advance peptide manufacturing initiatives.

  • Present findings internally and externally; publish in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Utilize and promote Tag Assisted Liquid Phase Peptide Chemistry and hybrid SPPS/LPPS methodologies.


Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemistry or related field

  • 7+ years in pharmaceutical industry OR 12+ years in related industries or academia

  • Expertise in peptide synthesis including hybrid SPPS/LPPS

  • Proven leadership and team management skills


Preferred Skills:

  • Strong collaborative interpersonal skills

  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize competing demands

  • Track record of scientific innovation and publication

  • Familiarity with chromatography, mass spectrometry, optical spectroscopy, and peptide automation


Travel:

0 to 10%


Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $144,000 – $250,800

  • Bonus eligibility based on performance
