Position Overview

The Regional Medical Advisor – Oncology (Gastrointestinal) is a field-based Medical Affairs professional responsible for executing the Medical Affairs strategy for pre-launch and newly launched GI oncology products across Karnataka. The role focuses on high-quality scientific exchange, stakeholder engagement, evidence generation, and implementation of medical strategies to ensure the safe and effective use of AstraZeneca’s oncology portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Leadership and Strategy

  • Maintain deep clinical expertise in GI oncology, emerging therapies, and competitive landscape.

  • Contribute to and execute the Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP).

  • Serve as a scientific subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support therapeutic area training and mentoring initiatives.

Scientific Exchange and Engagement

  • Conduct peer-to-peer scientific discussions with oncologists and healthcare professionals.

  • Deliver accurate, balanced, and evidence-based medical information.

  • Organize and facilitate advisory boards, scientific symposia, expert panels, and non-promotional medical events.

  • Collaborate with Key External Experts (KEEs) on Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR), local studies, and publications aligned with medical strategy.

  • Deliver scientific presentations aligned with the field medical communication plan.

Customer Insights and Evidence Generation

  • Capture, analyze, and communicate actionable insights from the external medical environment.

  • Identify gaps in patient journeys and contribute to strategic medical planning.

  • Support clinical and post-marketing data generation initiatives.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Develop peer-level relationships with healthcare professionals, research institutions, policymakers, and ecosystem partners.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information, Commercial, and Compliance teams.

Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure adherence to Global Field Medical Standards and local regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of pharmacovigilance, GxP principles, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

  • Ensure appropriate adverse event (AE) reporting and ethical engagement practices.

Digital and Innovation Enablement

  • Leverage digital platforms and innovative technologies to enhance scientific exchange and patient-centric initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, or related scientific discipline.

  • Strong scientific understanding of oncology, preferably gastrointestinal cancers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong presentation, analytical, and project management capabilities.

  • Ability to operate effectively in cross-functional matrix environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent).

  • Experience in Medical Affairs, clinical research, regulatory, or pharmaceutical industry.

  • Exposure to oncology clinical trials and evidence generation.

  • Experience engaging with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).

Experience Required

  • 3–6 years of relevant experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, Oncology support, or pharmaceutical industry roles.

  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and scientific exchange.

  • GI oncology experience is strongly preferred.
