Job Overview:
The R&D Data Modeling Manager Associate will play a pivotal role in enabling effective data capture and analysis in the R&D space. This position involves developing conceptual and logical data models to support initiatives, programs, and cross-R&D capabilities. The role ensures data governance, harmonization, and compliance with industry standards while contributing to creating FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data ecosystems.
Main Responsibilities:
Data Modeling & Design:
Design conceptual and logical data models to meet R&D business needs and functional requirements.
Lead validation of physical data models and maintain data dictionaries/ontologies.
Data Governance & Documentation:
Ensure adherence to data governance policies, standards, and procedures for R&D data.
Maintain modeling and naming standards, metadata management, and source-to-target data mapping.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Serve as a functional and data consultant for R&D initiatives.
Evaluate and influence projects, mapping systems/interfaces for data management and setting standards.
Data Standards & Compliance:
Establish best practices for data modeling to ensure system and application interoperability.
Close gaps between current and future state data models.
Training & Education:
Educate and guide R&D teams on standards, information management principles, and best practices.
Deliverables:
Gather requirements from business analysts, data scientists, and stakeholders.
Develop complex, scalable data models aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.
Formulate data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
Implement best practices to ensure data interoperability across platforms and applications.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Biology, or related field.
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in data management, data analysis, data architecture, or related fields.
Knowledge of Pharma R&D or life sciences data is critical.
Experience in creating and applying data modeling best practices and naming conventions.
Strong knowledge of SQL, database design, RDF, NoSQL, and ontologies is desirable.
Experience managing technology and/or data warehouse projects.
Familiarity with hierarchical data models from conceptualization to implementation.

Experience with pharma R&D platforms, system design, and validation requirements.
Languages:
Fluent in spoken and written English.
