Position Summary

As a Quality Lab Associate I – Environmental Monitoring, you will be responsible for ensuring environmental compliance in clean-room environments through microbiological testing and inspections. This is a critical role supporting patient safety and product quality by maintaining environmental integrity throughout manufacturing processes.


Key Responsibilities

Environmental Monitoring

  • Conduct surface, viable air, and total particle count testing using:

    • SAS Air Sampler

    • Climet Particle Counter

    • Swabs and media plates

  • Perform weekly/monthly water sampling and HEPA filter inspections

  • Conduct Instantaneous Microbial Detection (IMD) testing

  • Complete Real-Time Risk Assessments (RTRA) in clean-room environments

  • Document environmental deviations/events and ensure completeness prior to submission

Microbiological Testing

  • Perform microbiological analysis on raw materials, in-process, and finished products

  • Utilize laboratory instruments and computer systems for data collection and integrity

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all testing complies with cGMP, FDA, GLP, USP, and SOPs

  • Maintain accurate records using Good Documentation Practices (GDP)

  • Review and analyze environmental event data for compliance

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Quality Operations, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams

  • Initiate corrective actions or work orders when contamination risks or issues arise

Other Duties

  • Apply 6S principles to maintain a clean and safe work environment

  • Serve as a mentor to Quality Lab Technicians

  • Assist in other responsibilities as needed, including overtime when required


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related science field

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year in the Pharmaceutical or Medical Device industry preferred

  • Proficient in aseptic techniques, EM sampling, and microbiological testing

  • Familiar with LIMS, TrackWise, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong documentation and analytical skills

  • Knowledge of FDA quality systems regulations

  • Able to handle multiple priorities effectively

  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Understanding of lab instrumentation and aseptic environments


Compensation

  • Estimated Base Salary Range: $64,000 – $88,000 annually
    Actual salary is dependent on skills, location, experience, and other relevant factors.
