Job Summary:

The Principal Scientific Account Lead (SAL) serves as the scientific and clinical resource, providing fair-balanced, objective information about key products within the J&J Innovative Medicine pharmaceutical portfolio to external and internal customers. These customers include Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), physician groups, Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), government agencies (CMS, VA/DoD), Medicare, Medicaid, Long Term Care facilities, Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs), and Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs).

This role involves partnering closely with internal teams like Strategic Customer Group (SCG) and US Medical Affairs (MAF) to contribute strategic clinical insights, pharmacoeconomics/health outcomes expertise, and customer intelligence for business planning.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Scientific Engagement & Account Management

  • Develop and execute scientific strategies aligned with business objectives and patient access priorities.

  • Lead engagements with Population Health Decision Makers (PHDMs) within territory accounts.

  • Communicate complex scientific and pharmacoeconomic data effectively to diverse stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain strong, strategic relationships with key PHDMs.

  • Create and maintain scientific account plans that address current access priorities and anticipate new opportunities.

  • Collaborate with SCG, Medical Affairs, and commercial teams to support product launches and lifecycle management.

  • Shape evidence-based value propositions and support the development of dossiers, health technology assessments, and market access materials.

Research & Insights

  • Provide strategic direction for research initiatives alongside Real-World Evidence (RWE) and Population Health teams based on customer insights.

  • Participate in medical/outcomes research meetings, advisory boards, and conferences to deepen market and scientific understanding.

  • Influence clinical program design and value propositions for commercial and pipeline products.

Leadership & Compliance

  • Serve as a mentor, role model, and resource to colleagues within the department.

  • Lead national projects and act as the V&ESE-Field point person.

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and company policies, collaborating closely with Health Care Compliance partners.

  • Maintain timely and accurate reporting of engagement activities and field achievements.

Market Intelligence & Adaptability

  • Stay informed on healthcare ecosystem changes and marketplace dynamics to inform strategy.

  • Navigate conflicts and ambiguity effectively in a complex environment.

  • Foster a culture of innovation and excellence within Scientific Affairs.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Advanced degree required: PharmD, PhD, MD, DNP, or equivalent scientific/clinical/outcomes discipline.

Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years postgraduate experience in pharmaceutical industry, focused on field clinical/health outcomes roles or population health decision-making (e.g., clinical pathways, formulary management).

  • Residency or fellowship preferred.

  • 2-4 years of direct pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.

  • Advanced training or experience in health economics, pharmacoeconomics, healthcare policy, quality of life research, or pharmacoepidemiology preferred.
