Role Summary:

In this Director-level role, you will lead precision medicine and translational science strategies for early-stage programs focused on obesity and cardiometabolic disorders. You’ll collaborate across functions to drive biomarker strategy, integrate multi-omics data, and guide preclinical assets from discovery through IND and into first-in-human (FIH) studies.

Key Responsibilities:

🔬 Biomarker & Data Strategy

  • Design and lead biomarker strategies for pharmacodynamics, target engagement, and MoA indicators.

  • Leverage high-dimensional datasets (e.g., genomics, proteomics, single-cell data) to inform patient stratification and target validation.

🧪 Strategic Leadership in Early Development

  • Serve as a senior translational leader, embedding biomarker and MoA strategies early in research programs.

  • Enable first-in-human (FIH) readiness and proof-of-concept (PoC) through strategic decision-making.

🔄 Integration Across Discovery & Early Clinical Development

  • Act as a bridge between discovery and early clinical teams to align translational hypotheses and biomarker strategy.

  • Ensure preclinical data supports IND and early clinical development.

🔁 Mechanistic & Reverse Translational Research

  • Develop reverse translational approaches to understand mechanisms of resistance and disease heterogeneity.

  • Generate hypotheses related to drug MoA and patient subpopulations.

🤝 Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with teams in Discovery Research, PKDM, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, and more.

  • Support seamless transition from IND-enabling studies to clinical trial initiation.

🌐 External Innovation & Partnerships

  • Build and maintain collaborations with academic institutions, biotech companies, and consortia.

  • Integrate innovative tools and platforms into Amgen’s precision medicine ecosystem.

🧭 Strategic Contributions at the TA Level

  • Influence therapeutic area strategy, including target prioritization, combination therapies, and endotype definitions.

👥 Mentorship & Team Leadership

  • Mentor and lead a team of biomarker scientists, ensuring scientific rigor and career development.

  • Provide strategic and scientific oversight to direct reports and project teams.

  • Leadership experience taking programs from research through IND submission.

  • Experience as biomarker lead on clinical-stage assets with strong mechanistic knowledge in:

    • Obesity biology

    • Insulin resistance

    • Dyslipidemia

    • Cardiovascular disease

  • Proven record of scientific contributions via publications, conferences, or industry leadership.

  • Expertise in:

    • Multi-omics

    • Biomarker discovery and validation

    • Patient stratification

  • Strategic thinker with ability to synthesize complex data for decision-making.

  • Skilled in cross-functional leadership and communication in matrixed environments.
