Position Overview:

We are looking for a Physician Program Director (PPD) to join our Abiomed team in Phoenix, AZ. The PPD will be pivotal in building sustainable relationships with hospitals and healthcare systems to establish Impella programs. This role involves working closely with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and hospital administrators to drive heart recovery solutions and optimize patient outcomes. The PPD will also collaborate with internal teams across medical affairs, research, marketing, and sales to ensure the successful implementation and growth of Impella programs.


Key Responsibilities:

Program Development & Relationship Building:

  • Develop and nurture long-term relationships with hospitals, health systems, and KOLs to drive the formalization and expansion of Impella programs.
  • Tailor Impella programs to meet individual customer needs, ensuring mutual benefit for Abiomed and healthcare institutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and patient care, deploying appropriate tools to reach more patients with heart recovery solutions.

Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Advocate for heart recovery programs, working with hospital administrators and health system leaders to gain alignment and support for projects.
  • Present health economic data and clinical outcomes in a way that is clear, engaging, and impactful to diverse audiences, including influential stakeholders.
  • Facilitate customer advisory boards to collect feedback on products, messaging, and competition, influencing new product development and improvements.

Education & Scientific Leadership:

  • Facilitate peer-to-peer programs, educational sessions, and customer meetings to translate clinical best practices into actionable business strategies.
  • Represent Abiomed at major medical conferences such as ACC, TCT, and SCAI, showcasing innovations and advancing heart recovery solutions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Act as a liaison between Abiomed’s leadership, KOLs, IDNs, healthcare system leaders, and internal teams, including marketing, clinical research, and sales.
  • Coordinate with sales teams to ensure alignment on strategic goals and maximize program impact.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • BA/BS required, with MBS or MBA preferred.
  • 4+ years of successful sales experience within Abiomed, or 7+ years of related industry sales experience.
  • Prior KOL management experience or existing relationships in the Phoenix area is preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of US healthcare policy, hospital reimbursement, and physician payment systems.
  • Expertise in cardiac anatomy, clinical data, and the Impella system.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with healthcare professionals and hospital administrators at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear, compelling way.
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with tactical execution to achieve business goals.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel overnight extensively, up to 70% depending on geography, including weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
