Role Overview:
UPMC Corporate is seeking a Pharmacist Information Specialist to support the optimization and maintenance of automated pharmacy workflows across the organization. This hybrid role combines onsite responsibilities with regional travel to UPMC hospitals. The position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality medication use through the implementation and management of pharmacy automation technologies and medication-use systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for pharmacy automation technologies and medication-use systems.

  • Assure the quality of information through comprehensive testing of pharmacy systems.

  • Design and document system functional requirements for deliverables such as Requests for Proposals (RFPs), customizations, and scope documents.

  • Evaluate and document operational and financial pharmacy needs, including process analysis and proposals for workflow optimization.

  • Provide onboarding support, troubleshooting, and maintenance of production applications, including participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation (evenings, weekends, holidays).

  • Review, maintain, and update formularies as required.

  • Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors to evaluate, develop, and implement technological solutions.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • B.S. in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) required.

  • Minimum 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience, preferably with pharmacy informatics and pharmacy information systems/applications.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional team interactions.

  • Licensed Pharmacist in accordance with regulatory requirements (Act 34).
